For the 2023 TIME 100 Influential People, I worked as a motion designer at Coed Studios to develop a full broadcast motion package, including the event opener, animated background loops, lower thirds, and animated photo walls featuring TIME’s honorees.

This package was designed for large-scale screens and live stage projection, combining editorial clarity with cinematic pacing. The goal was to reinforce TIME’s iconic design language while adding energy and visual rhythm to the live experience.

This was my first year working on TIME 100 — and it led to a second consecutive year in 2024 as Animation Lead.

Motion Design Concpet

For the 2023 TIME project, the core visual direction shifted from the brand’s usual white background to a deep black tone with a subtle gray tint. To convey a strong sense of motion and elegance under this darker aesthetic, I focused on two key strategies:

âš¡ Highlighting TIME’s signature red elements to create stronger visual contrast.
âš¡ Introducing subtle variations within the black background to enrich the overall visual texture and elevate the sensory experience.

For the red elements, the director proposed using a combination of glow and flash transitions to emphasize key moments. I felt this approach created a striking contrast that aligned well with the overall visual tone. Additionally, the use of flash cuts brought a sense of energy and impact to the motion, enhancing the dynamic rhythm of the piece.

The red flash effect significantly enhanced the visual impact of the animation, so I extended this technique into the transitional sequences as well. By doing so, the transitions not only felt more cohesive but also carried the same bold energy as the key visuals.
